The Kendal Rural Dean, the Reverend Nigel Davies was Collated and Installed as an Honorary Canon during a Choral Evensong at Carlisle Cathedral on Sunday July 2 2006. The ceremony of Collation was performed by the Right Reverend Graham Dow, Lord Bishop of Carlisle and the Dean of Carlisle Cathedral led Reverend Canon Davies to his stall below the Choir for Installation.
The Cathedral Choir sang an anthem with words written by King Henry VI and music by Henry Ley before the Collation and Installation of the Reverend David Emison, Mr Peter Maiden and the Right Reverend Monsignor Greg Turner as Honorary Ecumenical Canons. The William Mathias: Jesus Service version of the Magnificat was sung between the First reading and the Second Lesson. The text of the latter, Romans 13: 1 – 10, was read by the Reverend Canon Nigel Davies.
The sermon was preached by the Bishop of Carlisle, taking as his text the First Reading, Jeremiah 11: 1 – 14 which was read by the Reverend Canon David Emison.
