Improvements to the Chapel & Church

The Skelsmergh Chapelry Committee was convened again in 1884 to look into improvements and additions to the church, with the Vicar of Kendal, Reverend R J Pearce as Chairman.
An organ chamber was constructed in 1884 on the south side of the church to house a pipe organ, built by T. Wilkinson & Sons of Kendal.
A stained-glass window was was presented by Septimus Norton of Thornleigh (late of Skelsmergh Hall). It was designed by Heaton, Butler & Bayne of London and inserted into the east wall of the church, behind the altar, as a memorial to unspecified family members.![]()
A polished brass double-sided Lectern was donated by an anonymous donor as a “thank-offering for the benefits he had derived from the ministrations of the present vicar”. It has been described as “an outstanding piece of workmanship”.
